Beckett: Poetry – No. 2216, My Heart is Steadfast

This limerick is based on Psalm 57:7-11.

You've made my heart steadfast;
thus, my melodies amass!
     Awake, O brass and strings, —
     let your songs resound and sing,
raising your praises as a mast!

I give thanks to God with the people
under the congregation's steeple.
     Let praises echo throughout the nations
     of Christ our one foundation
with hymns of praises regal!

For His steadfast love and faithfulness
are far above the Earth's address.
     His glory is over all the Earth,
     for His mercy is never in dearth
to forgive all that we transgress!
