Beckett: Poetry – No. 1767, Son of Man

You have the might to be all-powerful
and the wisdom to be all-wise.
You first came at the proper time, —
time according to the Father.

On our post-resurrection journey,
grant us patience for the answers we seek;
for it is You upon Mt. Zion,
the peak You’ll let us reach.

“Son of Man! Look to the sky!”
This we shall say one day.
Lift up your hearts!
He sets it free.

On that glorious day,
all pride shall cease;
for the Son of Man humbles all, —
a man in time we’ll all see.

Though you suffer brokenness, —
evil seeming to be the victor, —
with faith in the Son of Man,
you shall rise from death to life.

O Lord, grant me the learning to teach,
and grant me the teaching to learn,
that I may faithfully teach to all
the place beside You Your promise gives us.
