Isaiah 57:15, For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with Him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite.”
Many interpretations want to make this about man’s contrite and lowly spirit—that God is with such people. It is true that God is with such people, but Yahweh here is speaking of the second person of the Trinity, who would later be known as Jesus the Christ. For here, Yahweh says He dwells in the high and holy place with He who is of a contrite and lowly spirit. This is not us, for we are on earth. We do not dwell in His high and holy place. This position belongs to Christ. It is Christ who has the most contrite and lowly spirit, for He lowered Himself to become a man that He might die for you and rise from the dead for you, submissive to the will of the Father for your sake and my sake.
