Daily Devotion: Begone, Satan!

Matthew 4:10, Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God and Him only shall you serve.’”

Satan woos us into worshipping other gods, which take many forms. Muslims worship Allah, a hateful god. Who knows what god Mormons worship? For they do not worship Jesus Christ. Today’s pagans worship the self—sacred autonomy—and thus murder infants in the womb. They also worship pride and give in to homosexuality and transgenderism. Others worship money, sex, drugs, and so on.

To these false gods and its other copious forms, we must say, “Begone, Satan!” For anything that detracts from the person of Christ as the Son of God and the work of Christ as God’s salvific act made manifest in Him is a work of the Devil. From these things, we must depart and cling only to Christ. The Devil is a cunning bugger; what often seems right to us is often wrong for us. How do we know what is right? If it conforms to Christ and His Word, we can judge it to be right. If you are having difficulty judging for yourself, go to your pastor, and request private confession and absolution if necessary.
