Beckett: Poetry – No. 1635, Worship

Worship is thanksgiving
for all You do and have done, —
given in songs of praise
and even in forms of dance.

Worship is fearing You alone,
for You alone have the power
to destroy and to save,
the latter You give in grace.

Worship is loving You over all others,
ever more than myself, family, friends, and lover,
for You alone love me enough
to willingly die for my transgressions.

Worship is trusting in You alone,
even more than myself and others,
for You hold the universe together,
and You promised to care for me.
