Beckett: Poetry – No. 1471, Slavery Mastered

This poem is based on John 8:34; Romans 8:38-39; John 10:27-30.

Humans fickle with authority imagined,
licentiously we live in sin we fashion.

     Thus, we think ourselves masters
     only to become slaves thereafter,
colouring our spirits darkened.

The sins we love chain us to the wall;
Jesus comes to conquer them all.
     In Him we have true freedom,
     and there is no single demon
that can snatch us from His call.
