Ask and It Will be Given

John 15:7, “If you remain in Me and My Word remains in you, ask what you desire, and it will be done for you.” (Own Greek translation.)

The novice reader will read this and say, “Then why doesn’t He grant me a puppy or a million dollars when I desire it?” Two questions ought to be asked. First, do you abide in Christ? How do you know you abide in Him? Do you believe in Jesus? Are you baptised? If yes, then you abide in Him. Second, are you praying according to God’s will or your will? When we pray according to God’s will, we have confidence that He hears us and will give us our requests (1 John 5:14-15). Is it God’s will to give you a million dollars? Or are you praying out of selfishness? The Lord teaches to pray for our daily needs (Matthew 6:11). It is God’s will that He provide our needs. It is not His will that all His people be rich; the evidence of this is obvious. But since we abide in Christ, we are able to approach Him with confidence and He hears our sincere desires and will give them according to the Father’s will.
