Matthew 11:6, “Blessed is the one who is not offended by Me.”
The world is so concerned with “offending” others, yet they could care less about offending the Creator and His stewards. Why don’t they care? Because they find Christ and His God offensive. Christ disapproves of their hedonism and licentiousness, and they are offended. Christ calls out their favourite sin, saying, “Go, and sin no more,” and they are offended. It is no wonder why the world searches so desperately for happiness and always grow unsatisfied when they think they’ve found it, for Christ offends them, and they are not blessed.
It is easy for us to point the finger at the heathen. So, let us turn our fingers around and look within ourselves. What about Christ offends us? What sin do we cling to with our lives when Christ in His Word points it out? Is it sex? Contention? Pornography? Self-righteousness? Neglecting church? However Christ offends us, the only correct response is to repent, which is not only the confession of sins but also means to alter our thinking and behavioural pattern. This is what the responsible Christian does. The irresponsible Christian holds on to sin and is constantly offended by Christ. It is no wonder why honest Christians who repent are so content, for in repentance Christ no longer offends them, and so He blesses them.
