Romans 9:5, To [the Israelites] belong the patriarchs, and from their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ, who is God all over, blessed forever. Amen.
As privileged Western Christians, we are often ignorant of the heritage of our religion. We think Christianity is a western religion, but it started in the east and was brought to the west, such as this letter to the Romans. Jesus is King of the Jews, and He lived as a Jewish man under the Jewish law. By faith, we are all part of the Jewish people. Not as circumcised, ethnic Jews, but as God’s chosen people, royal priesthood, and holy nation (1 Peter 2:9; Exodus 19:6). A true Jew has a circumcised heart by the Spirit, not a circumcised flesh by the Law (Romans 2:29; Deuteronomy 10:15-16). God is God of both the Jews and the Gentiles (Romans 3:29-30). He justifies both by faith—He circumcises the hearts of both by His Spirit. Therefore, God welcomes us Gentiles into His chosen nation Israel. He circumcises our hearts; He makes us His Jewish people through His reign and rule in Jesus Christ our Jewish King. Christ came from Jewish lineage, and by faith in Him God makes us a part of His chosen Jewish people, royal priesthood, and holy nation.
