Luke 2:7, And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths and laid Him in a manger.
This is amazing. Christ humiliated Himself in a variety of ways, the ultimate of which was on the cross. Yet His penultimate humiliation was His birth—that the Son of God would step down from His throne and become human. The holy second person of the Trinity chose to be born in our filthy human flesh under the Law. Why would He humiliate Himself in such a way? Because of His love for us. He could have sat upon His throne and watch us fall into our damnation. Instead, He stepped down from His throne to offer eternal life to all who would believe (John 3:16-18).
