Matthew 10:25, “If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household.”
These are the words of Jesus to His chosen apostles whom He was sending into the world to do His work. Indeed, the Jews later accused Jesus of serving Beelzebul (Matthew 12:24)! It is no coincidence that Jesus said these words to His apostles before they departed, for since the Jews accused the master of Jesus’ ministry to be Beelzebul—that is, Satan—they would treat the apostles no better. And so today we continue to face such strong opposition to the Gospel—they say it is evil, a fairy tale, a giant farce, whatever Satan injects into their minds. We should not be surprised! For we will not be treated any better than Jesus was treated, who was flogged, crowned with thorns, spat on, mocked, and nailed to the cross for His proclamation as the Son of God. We, therefore, suffer likewise. Evil men massacre us, behead us, and crucify us; and the irreligious and cultural elite mock us and oppress us. Let their persecutions continue, for the Gospel shall never be defeated, for its Master is God Almighty who will seek vengeance on His Day, resurrecting us into the new life. For the Gospel must stand as a hindrance to the world, since it is the power of the Word to recreate God’s fallen creation into a new, perfect creation.
