No. 2409, Prayer of the Elderly (Poetry)

A poem on Psalm 71.

In You, O Lord, I put my Trust;
You will not leave me to the Dust.
Deliver me in Righteousness;
incline Your ear as I confess:

Be my strong Rock—my Shelter near, —
a Fortress sure in whom I cheer.
For from my youth, You’ve been my Guide;
through every Trial, You’ve walked beside.

Do not forget me in my old age,
nor forsake me when my strength is plagued.
For my foes surround and Mock my name,
declaring You’re aloof and lame.

My mouth shall tell Your wondrous deeds, —
Your Saving Grace to never cease.
Though I’ve grown old, my hair turned white,
I will declare Your Strength both day and night.

Let every age proclaim Your Power, —
Your Righteousness in every hour.
For who but You can shape the skies
and calm the storm where chaos flies?

My lips will sing, my harp will play,
my tongue shall praise You every day.
For even though soon I will die,
from the grave You’ll cause me to Rise.

O Lord, my God, my Faithful stay,
I’ll trust in You through every day.
For You bring my foes to their shame,
who despise me and mock my name.
