No. 2397, Hosanna in the Highest! (Poetry)

A poem on Matthew 21:1-9.

To Bethphage’s edge the Savior came;
the Mount of Olives bore His Name.
He sent His pupils with words to say,
“Go find a Colt tied on your way.

“A Donkey waits, her Foal aside.
Bring both to Me, for I must ride.
If someone asks, ‘What is your plea?’
Say, ‘It is needed by the Lord’s decree.'”

This act fulfilled the prophet’s word, โ€”
a vision ancient, often heard:
“Behold, O Zion, your King draws near
on a Humble Colt, no wrath or spear.”

The disciples went as He had said
and placed their Cloaks where He would tread.
The crowd spread Garments, branches laid;
a path of Honor thus was made.

“Hosanna!” rose their joyful cry,
“Son of David, lifted high!
Blessรจd is He who comes in God’s Name.
Hosanna in the highest frame!”

The Humble King, His path was set.
Though Glory came, He’d pay the Debt.
The Palms would fade, the cries grow still,
for our Righteousness He came to fulfill.
