No. 2323, The Ancient One in Fire and Flame (Poetry)

A poem on Daniel 7:9-14.

The Ancient of Days by William Blake, from Europe a Prophecy, 1794. Museum’s website.

Upon the edge of night, a dream unrolled,
where a Throne was set and flames did bright unfold.
The Ancient One, with robes of snowy white,
sat calm as stars bowed low to yield their light.

A river flowed, all fire and glowing stream,
its torrent fierce, yet steady as a dream.
Ten thousand and more stood, their silence held in awe,
awaiting Judgement’s books to speak the Law.

Then on the clouds there came a figure near, โ€”
a Son of Man in Majesty sincere.
He strode before the Throne with steps of Grace,
and Light Eternal crowned His shining face.

To Him were given realms that never cease, โ€”
a Kingdom vast, whose Truth would herald Peace.
No power of man can break His rightful claim,
for nations know the Glory of His Name.

Though kingdoms crumble, fleeting in their might,
this Vision standsโ€”a Beacon through the night.
For in the flame and cloud, His Promise stays, โ€”
a rule of Justice, endless as His days.
