The stone had ceased its Mortal weight,
the seal no longer bound, —
the Savior walked through Hell’s gate
to give His Victory all around.
A whispered Dawn, the garden stirs,
and lilies bow in awe, —
the Earth proclaims, “He lives again!”
Eternal Light they saw.
What Power bent the grave to yield
its claim upon the clay?
What Love defied the ancient curse
and rolled the Dark away?
The piercéd hands, the wounded side,
they mark a tale divine, —
of Death defeated, chains undone,
a grace no tomb confines.
So lift your gaze, ye faint of heart,
the King has conquered sin, —
for Life has risen, nevermore
shall darkness rise again.
