A villanelle on the 3rd Article of the Apostles’ Creed.
The Holy Spirit brought me to faith,
for I was dead in my trespasses and sins;
He enlightened me with the Gospel’s dictate.
I cannot believe by my own reason or strength;
it was the Spirit who in my heart broke in.
The Holy Spirit brought me to faith.
Whether adult or baby He efficaciously bathes
in Baptism to save all from sin’s chagrin.
He enlightened me with the Gospel’s dictate.
With Christ’s righteousness He graciously swathes
all who are baptized into Christ’s holy win.
The Holy Spirit brought me to faith.
In the Church He continues to create
my faith in Christ, my holy kin.
He enlightened me with the Gospel’s dictate.
He will raise me from the dead on the Last Day
with all the saints in Christ’s communion.
