Beckett: Poetry – No. 1889, God Blesses Those Who Trust in Him

This exegetical poem is based on Psalm 40:1-5.

I waited for God patiently,
     for He listened to my prayer.
He drew me from sin’s fatality, —
     out from its mucous layer.

He set me upon the Rock, —
     a firm, secure foundation.
New poetry comes from my soul’s talk, —
     praise for His salvation.

I pray that many see and fear
     and place their trust in the Lord,
for He blesses the one who adheres
     and turns not to the evil horde.

God multiplies His gracious deeds
     toward we who trust in Him,
for He supplies all our needs;
     thus, I praise the Lord in hymn.
